Business Valuation

What is My Business Worth?

If you are considering selling your business, the value or worth of your business is probably foremost on your mind.  Establishing the value of a business is part art and part science.
Visit the Firm's blog, The Business Arc, for the informative multimedia presentation entitled "How Much is My Business Worth?."  We hope you find this video helpful as a basic introduction to the topic of business valuation.

Business Valuation Reports

An essential part of the selling process is having an independently certified business valuation report prepared for your company. This is particularly true when selling a middle-market business. A third-party business valuation adds credibility to the asking price for the business and most times is necessary in order to obtain acquisition financing for the buyer. Moreover, a business valuation many times identifies key issues and information that prove to be very helpful in negotiating and closing a transaction.

Ascend Business Brokers offers a variety of independently certified professional business valuation services, ranging in cost from $1,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the size and complexity of the business being valued. These services include rendering what is commonly known as a Preliminary Estimate of Value, Letter of Opinion, Value Analysis, Limited Formal Business Valuation, or M & A Valuation, once again depending upon the circumstances.

Independently certified business valuations are prepared by business appraisers with one, or several, of the following accreditations: ABV (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants), CVA (National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts), ASA (American Society of Appraisers) and CBA (Institute of Business Appraisers). There are many reasons for valuing a business other than for the purposes of selling. Business valuation is an important tool for tax and estate planning, gifts, ESOPs, divorce settlements, raising capital, and for certain types of business litigation.
